Drama: Water Pollution

Three friends are walking along the street…

Febri            : “Wait wait wait! Is that Veronika?”

Rada            : “Really? She doesn’t  look as fat as usual”

Icha             : “Don’t you realize you are also fat?”

Rada            : “But I’m slimmer than her.”

Icha             : “Whatever.”

Febri            : “The point is why is she throwing up the rubbish to the river? It’s prohibited, isn’t it?”

Icha & Rada    : “Yeeaaahh…”

Rada            : “So what are we gonna do now?”

Icha             : “How about, you guys talk to her while I meet Mr. Joko. Got it?”

Febri            : “Wait! Why must you go and we stay? Why don’t both of us talk to her? Or else?”

Icha             : “Because I live here.”

Febri            : “Ohhh… I see…”

Rada            : (singing) “Hello… Hello... Good morning!”

Febri            : “Ohayou, Ver-chan.”

Vero            : “Ohayou? What on earth is that mean?”

Febri            : “It means good morning, dear.”

Vero            : “But this is afternoon.”

Febri            : “Ohhh… I see…”

Rada            : “Why did you throw up the rubbish over here? This is a river.”

Febri            : “Yeah. You cannot just throw it in here and then go home without thinking the risk. You see, the river is getting weaker every single day. The rubbish is everywhere and eww… it’s yellowish. It’s not pink. People don’t think deeply.”

Rada            : “Absolutely. It may cause many effect for our earth. Bad effect exactly. We had learnt it from Mrs. Diana, right?”

Vero            : “I know. But my mother forced me to do it. The rubbish truck doesn’t come today.”

Febri            : “But you can throw it to the last disposal site. It’s not far in here.”

Vero            : “I’m too lazy for that. Besides, my motorcycle is on service.”

Rada            : “You don’t need a motorcycle for that. That causes air pollution. Just walk to the         t-junction. This is holiday. We don’t have any homework to do. You have a lot of time to do it.”

(Mr. Joko comes with Icha)

Mr. Joko      : “Veronika! What had you done to the river?”

Icha             : “I’ve told you, Sir. She threw rubbish to the river.”

Mr. Joko      : “Why did you do that?”

Rada            : “Because the rubbish truck doesn’t come today, Sir.”

Mr. Joko    : “Then why didn’t you throw it to the last disposal site?”

Febri            : “Because her motorcycle is on service so she got lazy for it.”

Mr. Joko      : “So why must three of you answer my questions?”

Febri, Rada, and Icha   : “Because we know, Sir and you don’t.”

Mr. Joko      : (shaking his head) “Veronika, you know how bad the water pollution is. Water can only flows along the river and can’t clean itself from dirt, chemical, and your rubbish. It also causes the evaporation hampered because it needs clean water to evaporate. And when it rains, the trench will be clogged by the rubbish and flood will occur. So, you want it happens?”

Vero            : “No, Sir. Pardon me.”

Mr. Joko      : “I will.”

Vero            : “You will?”

Mr. Joko      : “If you pay the fine because you know the rules.”

Icha             : “Pay the fine? Why doesn’t she take her rubbish from the river? It’s gonna be so fun to see her swim in this dirty river.”

Rada            : “You’re so mean, Icha! But I agree.”

Febri            : “Right. So she won’t do it again.”

Vero            : “What the hell of you!”

Icha             : “Rule is rule.”

Mr. Joko      : “But the rule is pays the fine.”

Icha             : “I know I know”

Mr. Joko      : “Vero, please mention what are the bad effect of water pollution.”

Vero            : “For what?”

Mr. Joko      : “So we can know whether you understand or not.”

Vero            : “Can we just talk it in another place. At least in shady tree.”

Mr. Joko      : “Alright then.”

Rada            : “Mak Inyooonnng!!!!”

Febri            : “You’re joking me.”

Rada            : “What? Mak Inyong meetballs is delicious.”

Mr. Joko      : “Let’s talk it in my house.”

Vero            : “Alright. Water pollution causes the death of sea creatures, disruption of food-chains, diseases or poisoned, and destruction of ecosystems. And the most occur in Indonesia is flood.”

Mr. Joko      : “Then what should we do to minimize it?”

Vero            : “Never throw rubbish away anyhow and chemicals, oils, paints, and medicines down the sink drain or the toilet and also the river.”

Mr. Joko      : “But, you did it.”

Vero            : “I regret it, Sir.”

Febri            : “Let me continue, Sir. Use water wisely and if you use chemicals and pesticides for your garden and farms, be mindful not to overuse the fertilizer and pesticides. This will reduce runoffs of the chemical into nearby water sources. Start looking at options of composting and using organic manure instead.”

Rada            : “My turn. Buy more environmentally safe cleaning liquids for use at home and other public places. They are less dangerous to the environment. And if you live close to a water body, try to plant lots of trees and flowers around your home, so that when it rains, chemical from your home doesn’t easily drain into the water.”

Icha             : “For government and local council, set a rule or law especially for industries, hospitals, schools, and market areas on how to dispose, treat, and manage sewage.”

Mr. Joko      : “All of you know it. Good! Very good! I proud of you so much.”

Rada            : “Can we go to Mak Inyong stand pleaseeeee.”

Icha             : “Eat is the only way to shut you up. Let’s go. Do you come with us, Ver?”

Vero            : “Okay. But first I want to put this bin.”

Mr. Joko      : “You don’t ask me?”

Icha             : “Come on, Sir.”
